Updated Rules for Hand Luggage at Dubai International Airport (DXB)
Air Travel in Dubai: Prohibited and Restricted Items for Carry-On Luggage
Travellers passing through Dubai International Airport (DXB) should be aware of the updated rules for carrying liquids, electronics, power banks, and medication in their hand luggage. Here's a breakdown of the key points:
Liquids
- Containers of liquids, gels, and aerosols must not exceed 100ml each.
- A maximum of 10 containers, totalling one litre, are allowed.
- Medications and baby food are permitted, but they must be accompanied by proper documentation.
Electronics
- Travellers are advised to avoid carrying unnecessary electronic items, especially those with lithium batteries, to minimize security delays.
- Power banks are allowed in cabin baggage if they do not exceed 100Wh. Power banks between 100Wh and 160Wh may be permitted, depending on the airline's policy, but they must not be used or charged during the flight.
- Devices with lithium batteries, such as electric suitcases, are banned in hand luggage.
Medication
- Medications must be accompanied by a doctor's prescription.
- Baby food is allowed with proper documentation.
Other Items
- Sharp tools, flammables, and weapons are strictly prohibited in hand luggage.
- Wearing metal objects during security checks is discouraged; passengers should remove them before passing through scanners.
General Tips
- Arrive early at the airport to avoid security delays.
- Keep essential documents ready, including your passport and boarding pass.
- Be prepared to declare valuable items if their value exceeds Dhs60,000.
- As of October 1, Emirates passengers may no longer use power banks during flights, but they can still carry one power bank onboard under specific conditions.
- The new checkpoint scanners at Dubai International Airport (DXB) will allow passengers to pass through security without removing liquids over 100ml or laptops from their bags.
These updates are part of an ongoing effort to improve security and efficiency at DXB, as announced by the CEO of Dubai Airports, Paul Griffiths, to Gulf News. Trials for the new scanners are currently underway, but a full rollout date has not yet been confirmed. The new technology being used is state-of-the-art, similar to systems recently approved in parts of Europe.
