Anantara Convento di Amalfi: History Meets Serenity on Amalfi Coast
The Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel, nestled in a former Capuchin convent, has a rich history dating back to the 13th century. In 1583, the Capuchin friars took charge and rebuilt the site with architect Matteo Vitale of Cava de' Tirreni.
Originally a monastery, the complex was reorganised into individual cells with a refectory and kitchen during the Capuchin friars' tenure. The building's plan follows the cliff, keeping circulation linear and calm. Notably, there is no historical record of an architectural team conducting a renovation or reorganization in the 16th century.
Perched on a cliff above the harbour, the hotel offers a continuous view of the sea and sky, removing it from the day-trip traffic around the Duomo and the port. This altitude provides guests with a peaceful retreat.
The Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel, with its unique history and tranquil setting, stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of past and present, offering visitors a serene escape amidst the Amalfi Coast's vibrant landscape.
