Southwest Airlines Ends Decades-Long Baggage Policy, Introduces Checked Bag Fees from May 28

The new baggage policy will take effect from May 28, 2025, and passengers will be charged for checked bags on most fares.
According to the revised policy, a first checked bag will be priced at $35, while a second checked bag will cost $45. Weight and size limitations will apply for bags. However, customers who have reached the higher tiers of the Rapid Rewards loyalty program, purchased business class tickets, or hold the airline's credit card will still be eligible for free checked bags. Rapid Rewards A-List preferred members traveling on Business Select fares will continue to receive two free checked bags. A-List members, along with other select customers, will be entitled to one free checked bag. Passengers with Rapid Rewards credit cards will receive a credit for one checked bag.
In addition to the baggage policy change, Southwest will also require passengers to keep their portable chargers in plain sight during use, owing to increasing concerns about lithium-ion battery fires.
