Anticipated Rush of Travelers: Dublin Airport Predicts Half a Million Passengers This Weekend
Dublin Airport anticipates a surge in travel during the upcoming bank holiday weekend, with over 480,000 passengers expected to pass through its terminals. To manage the anticipated influx, the airport is planning for approximately 115,000 passengers every day, between Friday and Monday.
Approximately 250,000 passengers are predicted to depart from Dublin Airport, while about 230,000 travelers are set to arrive during the four-day span. The busiest day of the weekend is expected to be Friday, May 30th, with almost 124,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport on that day.
Graeme McQueen, spokesperson for Dublin Airport, commented on the rising tourism season, stating that the demand to travel this summer has been exceptionally high, making this bank holiday weekend one of the busiest on record for Dublin Airport. The increased passenger numbers are evidence of the growing demand for flights to and from Dublin, he added.
However, Mr. McQueen noted that the numbers traveling this weekend, as well as during the summer, would be higher if not for the passenger cap on Dublin Airport, which has prevented airlines from introducing new and additional routes to Ireland.
Passengers are advised to arrive at their terminal two hours ahead of a short-haul flight and three hours before a long-haul flight. They are also reminded to prepare for security screening by ensuring all liquids are within the 100ml limit and enclosed in a clear, sealed bag no larger than 20cm x 20cm.
Mr. McQueen also emphasized the importance of preparing for security screening proactively, suggesting passengers remove hoodies, baggy jumpers, boots, or any footwear that sits above the ankle before reaching the checkpoint. By doing so, travelers can minimize extra delays and start their trip smoothly.
Amid the rising tourism season, Dublin Airport's anticipated surge in travel during the upcoming bank holiday weekend is indicative of the general-news trend of increased demand for flights to and from Dublin. The busy weekend, expected to set a record for the airport, will see approximately 250,000 passengers departing and 230,000 arriving, with Friday anticipated to be the busiest day, reflecting a bustling lifestyle of travel.
