Nova Meierhenrich: Weathering the Media Storm

Exits the relentless public spectacle. - Avoiding Press Frenzy: Her Secret Technique

Nova Meierhenrich, the 51-year-old actress, entertainer, and enthusiastic gardener, has recently found herself in the spotlight with the publication of her poignant book "Lifeturner", delving into her longing for children and the challenges she faced in her fertility journey. Caught up in a whirlwind of interest, the actress shares her experience, how she's weathering the storm, and plans for the rest of the year in an exclusive interview away from the OMR in bustling Hamburg. Novaboarded a green rickshaw with Neudorff, the eco-friendly gardening product brand, to enjoy a tranquil sanctuary amidst the chaos of the trade fair and city commotion.

Can you believe the astounding reaction to your book? Was it expected?

Nova Meierhenrich: Astonishing? Absolutely! The past eight weeks have been nothing short of breathtaking. The last thing I anticipated was such an overwhelming response to the book's topic and demand. I find myself talking endlessly about the book, a goal met with approval and touching messages from women who feel they finally have a voice. Emails pouring in daily - "Finally, I feel understood. It's not just me." And when I attend an event and am suddenly embraced by a stranger whispering a whispered "thank you" in my ear - I can't help but shed tears from the sheer joy it brings.

What techniques have you found to create moments of calm amidst the chaos?

Meierhenrich: Admittedly, learning to create tranquil spaces in my life was a journey. In the past, I struggled with managing my time effectively, overloading myself with responsibilities. However, as my body demanded rest, I knew I had to establish my sanctuaries. My van parked by the door, Elbe beach visits, and the allotment garden have become my personal havens. The green rickshaw ride with Neudorff encapsulates this concept - a symbol of peace amidst the turmoil.

Does your career in the entertainment industry present a stark contrast to these moments of quiet contemplation?

Meierhenrich: Indeed, the juxtaposition between my professional life and these simple pleasures is striking. Growing up, I was surrounded by the earth and my brothers, all of us playing in the mud. No Barbie dolls to be found, just treehouses sprouting from our imagination. To this day, I lead a simple, grounded life, my hands often needing a good scrub after a hard day's work.

Do your garden neighbors recognize your celebrity status?

Meierhenrich: No, not at all. Many don't even know what I do for a living. Those who do show little interest in my career. It's refreshing to have neighbors that view each other as neighbors, not as celebrities. I share a nice rapport with some, even exchanging homemade cakes over the garden fence. Of course, allotment colonies have their quirks - but that's part of the charm.

What does your allotment garden look like currently?

Meierhenrich: Now, it's awash with vibrant colors. The edible crops are still waiting to take root as we're awaiting the ice saints' arrival for a safer planting season. But everything blooms and sprouts, tulips pop in full force, grasses sprout, and my plum and apple trees commence their dance of blossoms. It's a delightful phase at the moment, filled with anticipation for the first barbecue night and the arrival of sunshine on my shovel.

Does tapas chef Brian Bojsen lend a helping hand in the garden?

Meierhenrich: A big no! (laughs) I luckily won't go hungry with him by my side. He takes charge of the culinary scene with unwavering passion. His only condition - an absence of garden tools in his hands. Renovation, DIY - he detests all of it. And luckily, I excel at those tasks. He makes an excellent BBQ chef, a task neither of us complain about. A perfect division of labor, indeed.

What tips do you have for complete gardening novices eager to get their hands dirty?

Meierhenrich: First and foremost, don't stress the perfection. The garden will show you its character. In the beginning, you think you have everything under control - but gardening is unpredictable and challenging. Don't be too hard on yourself, just dive in, experiment, and learn from the journey.

Second, try not to overcomplicate the process. I advocate for a wild, freestyle approach within the allotment garden regulations. Let your garden breathe, give it room to grow, and find its rhythm. If a plot is unavailable, consider renting small plots or even planting balcony boxes at home. There's always a way to reap the rewards of nature.

Thirdly, resist the urge to spend fortune on gardening apparel. Soon enough, your designated clothes will become covered in soil, stained, and worn - but you certainly don't need to buy a wardrobe of gardening gear for that.

What other ventures do you plan to undertake this year, apart from the allotment garden?

Meierhenrich: My year is shaping up to be a blend of adventures, with the allotment garden acting as my steady anchor. In the summer, my partner, Brian, and I, along with our furry companion, plan to embark on a journey to the North Cape in our van, spending almost a month connecting with Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The trip serves as both a unique exploration of new lands and an affirmation of our journey as a couple, looking forward to our future together.
