Berlin's Brandenburg Airport Reopens Despite Cyberattack Delays
Berlin's Brandenburg Airport is currently busy with passengers, despite recent disruptions caused by a cyberattack. While operations are running smoothly, travelers may still face delays due to the ongoing recovery from the incident.
The airport recommends passengers check with their airline for the latest trip details, as the cyberattack two weeks ago affected several airports in Europe, including Berlin's Brandenburg Airport. The attack disabled electronic systems used for passenger and baggage handling, such as check-in counters, leading to long wait times and delays in check-in, boarding, and baggage claim. Almost all flights are taking off, but occasional delays are still possible.
The company behind the affected IT systems, Collins Aerospace, is working to restore them. The goal is to have the systems fully operational by Sunday, with airlines being gradually reconnected in the following days after some tests. In the meantime, passengers can use still-functioning self-service stations and automated baggage drop-off points to speed up their journey.
Despite the recent cyberattack, Berlin's Brandenburg Airport is expecting heavy customer traffic due to the holiday, with around 90,000 travelers on Friday and nearly 96,000 on Sunday. Passengers are advised to be patient and check with their airline for the most up-to-date information on their flight status.
