Camera Equipment I Carry: Photography Accessories List
Let's get down to business, shall we? You've probably got questions about the gear I use as a travel photographer and blogger, so here's a peek inside my camera bag!
First and foremost, I'm not your average Joe travelling with a point-and-shoot. I'm a freelance photographer through and through, and my gear collection is massive (far more than I had when I started with my Canon 7D back in 2010). Most travellers don't require the fancy kit I carry, but for those of you who are curious or looking to level up your game, let me walk you through some of my essentials:
Sony Alpha 7C II - Main Camera Body: After being a Canon fanboy for years, I made the switch to Sony when they introduced the smaller (and superior) mirrorless A7 line. The A7C II is perfect for high-end landscape photography with a 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor. It's not necessarily a camera for beginners, but if you can afford the investment, it delivers top-notch results!
Lenses: * Sony 16-35mm F2.8 - Wide Angle Lens: This is the lens I have on my camera 75% of the time, perfect for capturing big landscapes as a landscape photographer. It can also take decent portraits when zoomed in to 35mm and stopped down to F2.8, plus it works great for night and star photography too! * Sony 24-70mm F2.8 - Medium Zoom Lens: If I need a bit more reach or for occasions when I can only carry one lens, this versatile lens is my go-to. It's not as wide, but often wide enough for most landscapes, and it allows me to zoom in on small subjects or compress the background to make mountains look bigger! * Sony FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM - Telephoto Zoom: This is my wildlife photography lens or for shooting outdoor portraits and compressing big mountain ranges. It's heavy, so I don't bring it on every trip, but when a specific shot calls for it, it delivers!
Additional Equipment: * Sony RX100 VII - Backup Camera: Ideal for capturing time-lapses, vlogging, and for situations where I don't want to bring my large camera with me (like sketchy parts of town, bars, etc.). It's tiny but extra powerful! * GoPro Hero 9 - Action Camera: Perfect for capturing hands-free action or B-roll, and you can attach it to almost anything! I use it for surfing, mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, cliff jumping, interior and exterior moving-vehicle footage, and more! * DJI Mavic Air 2 - Flying Drone: The perfect tool for capturing aerial photography and video, while costing much less than renting a helicopter! It flies fast, is reliable, and shoots high-quality RAW photos and 4K video.
Camera Bags: * Peak Design Travel Backpack - Camera Daypack: A great backpack that holds everything I need, sits comfortably on my back, and has the perfect amount of weatherproofing and gear protection. It's perfect for carry-on flights and city travel. * Peak Design Range Pouch - Camera Lens Bag: This lens pouch is big enough to keep a 100-400mm zoom lens safe and secure, or you can fit two smaller lenses in it (with a divider) or even a drone. Ideal for long-distance trekking adventures or securing a lens in my suitcase for smaller plane flights!
Peak Design Travel Tripod - Lightweight Tripod: As a landscape photographer, a solid yet lightweight travel tripod is essential. This tripod helps me stabilize my camera in low light situations, with high f-stop settings, and allows me to get shots I couldn't achieve hand-held.
Peak Design Capture Clip: This clip allows you to "clip" your camera onto your belt, or on the shoulder straps of a backpack, for easy access when you need it. It's perfect for day hikes, long-distance trekking, urban situations, and anywhere you require quick access to your camera.
