Child Aided by Marcell Giebisch from Künzell
In a heartwarming tale that highlights the importance of kindness and compassion, Marcell Giebisch, a bus driver for RhönEnergie Verkehrsbetriebe, has been named one of Germany's 'Favorite Bus Drivers' in a nationwide competition.
The incident that led to Giebisch's nomination took place at the Am Seeseberg stop in Fulda. A young girl, roughly seven to eight years old, boarded the wrong bus and became restless and cried. Two passengers tried to help, but it was Giebisch who successfully calmed the girl down and ensured she got home safely.
Giebisch contacted the dispatch via radio to finish the route with the girl and took her to the Central Bus Station, where a colleague from the dispatch was waiting to take over and put the girl on the correct bus.
The nomination for the award was submitted by a 17-year-old student who witnessed the incident. Giebisch was among the top 30 nominees for the award and was eventually selected in the category 'Everyday Hero' from over 2000 entries.
The award ceremony took place on an unspecified date, with RhönEnergie CEO Dr. Arnt Meyer, RhönEnergie Verkehrsbetriebe CEO Thomas Lang, and Prokurist Michael Schneider congratulating Giebisch on his award. Dr. Meyer expressed pride in having Giebisch on their team, stating that it shows every passenger is important to them.
The award for 'Favorite Bus Driver' was presented by the passenger association Pro Bahn, DB Regio, and the Association of German Transport Companies VDV. The person who crowned the favorite bus driver 2022 in cooperation with Pro Bahn Passenger Forum, DB Regio, and the Association of German Transport Companies has not been publicly specified.
A certificate was presented to Marcell Giebisch during the award ceremony, and he was praised for his exceptional commitment, friendliness, and helpfulness. This recognition serves as a reminder of the impact that small acts of kindness can have in our daily lives.
