China Tops Vietnam's Visitor List Again as Travel Eases

China has reclaimed its top spot as Vietnam's leading source market for international visitors. This rebound is attributed to improved air connectivity and pent-up demand, according to Vu Ngoc Lam, Agoda's country director for Vietnam.

The surge in interest is evident in search data. Xi'an saw a 130 per cent increase in searches from Vietnamese users, followed by Ningbo (77 per cent), Shanghai (68 per cent), and Chengdu (20 per cent). Meanwhile, searches from Chinese travellers for Vietnam rose by 90 per cent year-on-year in July-August, with Hanoi experiencing an 89 per cent increase.

New direct routes from Hanoi to Ningbo, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Xi'an have boosted this momentum. Lam also highlighted the removal of travel barriers, making it easier for visitors to explore Vietnam's culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.

Chinese visitors now account for around 25 per cent of all international arrivals in Vietnam, nearly double earlier figures. As travel between the two countries becomes more accessible, Vietnam can expect a continued rise in visitors from China.
