Christ Church's 20th Pumpkin Patch Returns, Benefiting Ministries and Local Causes
Christ Church in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, is preparing for its 20th annual pumpkin patch. Known locally as the 'pumpkin church', it's a beloved tradition that raises funds for both the church's ministries and local causes.
The pumpkin patch, running from Oct. 6 to 31, 2023, will feature around 10,000 pumpkins of various sizes and types. Proceeds from sales will be split, with 70% going to Christ Church and 30% to local initiatives like the food pantry and education programs. Last year, over two dozen Episcopal churches nationwide hosted similar pumpkin patches, with Christ Church raising an average of $22,000-24,000.
The pumpkins are supplied by Pumpkin USA, a Greensboro, North Carolina-based nonprofit that grows them on the Navajo Nation in Farmington, New Mexico. They provide over 1.2 million pumpkins annually for fundraising activities of Episcopal churches. Unsold pumpkins will be given away for free on Nov. 1 and donated to a horse farm in New Jersey by Nov. 2.
The 20th annual pumpkin patch at Christ Church is set to be another successful event, benefiting both the church and the local community. With a wide variety of pumpkins and a dedicated cause, it's a tradition that continues to grow and make a positive impact.
