Dive into the rich history of Baroque composer George Frideric Handel by checking out the digitized historical artifacts at his birthplace in Halle, Germany. This amazing collection boasts approximately 2,500 items, including a whopping 800 musical manuscripts!

One of the standout pieces is an early copy of the Coronation Anthems of the English kings, dating back to 1730, totaling an impressive 160 pages. Acquired at the 2023 Christie's auction house in London for roughly 20,000 euros, it's an absolute treasure for Handel enthusiasts everywhere.

Among the musical manuscripts you'll find touches from a variety of Halle musicians, such as Robert Franz, Carl Loewe, Johann Friedrich Reichardt, and Samuel Scheidt. You'll also spot a connection to Handel, like the correspondence of Robert Franz, who was quite active as a modern-day Handel editor during his time.

Around 1,500 graphics, including historical engravings of Handel and pictures of buildings in Halle, were digitized five years ago. These engaging images along with old city plans and city views from the 18th/19th centuries can be found online for your viewing pleasure.

Unfortunately, the museum doesn't own any original pieces by Handel, but with the museum's extensive collection and online resources, you'll feel like you have the next best thing!

This year's Handel Festival, taking place from June 6 to 15, is themed "Fresh Wind: The Young Handel in Italy." Over 44,000 enthusiasts from Germany and abroad are expected to attend, so don't miss out on the chance to immerse yourself in a world of Handel-inspired music! In 2023, the museum welcomed almost as many visitors as the previous year, with around 23,500 people stopping by to pay tribute to the legendary composer.

Handel was born in Halle but spent most of his life in London, where he became a household name in the world of opera and oratorio. Famous works include the "Messiah," featuring the world-renowned "Hallelujah" chorus, the "Music for the Royal Fireworks," and the "Water Music."
