Croatia's Recent Tourism Statistics Revealed: Travel Data from Zagreb to Dubrovnik
In the heart of Europe, Croatia has long been a popular destination for tourists from around the world, and May 2025 was no exception. However, the latest data reveals a slight dip in the country's tourism figures compared to the same period last year.
According to the available data, Croatia recorded 1.8 million arrivals and 5.9 million overnight stays in commercial accommodations in May 2025, marking a 5.1% decrease in arrivals and a 15.0% decrease in overnight stays compared to May 2024. Foreign tourists accounted for 87.2% of the total overnight stays, with 5.1 million stays registered.
While specific figures for popular destinations like Dubrovnik, Split, and Zagreb are not detailed, the Adriatic coast, home to many of Croatia's most visited cities, continues to drive the country's tourism numbers. The coastal regions have proven to be particularly strong, with cities like Rovinj, Umag, Poreč, Šibenik, and Zadar attracting significant numbers of both domestic and foreign tourists.
In May 2025, Rovinj, Umag, Poreč, Šibenik, and Zadar recorded 38,000, 31,000, 30,000, 25,000, and 25,000 overnight stays by domestic tourists respectively. Meanwhile, foreign tourists in Rovinj, Umag, Poreč, Split, and Zadar had 295,000, 236,000, 236,000, 286,000, and 25,000 overnight stays respectively.
Interestingly, the City of Zagreb, Croatia's capital, saw a 1.2% increase in overnight stays of domestic tourists in May 2025 compared to May 2024, with a total of 42,000 overnight stays realised by domestic tourists.
Despite the slight decline in May, the tourism sector showed a promising increase in June, suggesting a potential rebound in the summer months. This is good news for the Croatian economy, which heavily relies on tourism revenues.
In terms of foreign tourist arrivals, Germany topped the list, accounting for 14.7% of total arrivals and 19.9% of total overnight stays. The highest numbers were also made up by tourists from Austria, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Poland, the USA, France, the Netherlands, and Italy.
While specific data for individual counties and popular destinations is not available, it is clear that Croatia remains a sought-after tourist destination. For more precise breakdowns of tourism figures by county or destination, it is recommended to consult the Croatian National Tourist Board or local tourism boards for detailed statistics.
