Delivery Workers Pedaling to Lapland for Santa Claus Delivery
Three Postal Workers Embark on Epic Bike Journey to Deliver Children's Wish Lists to Santa Claus
Three postal workers have embarked on an extraordinary mission to deliver Christmas wish lists from children around the world to Santa Claus in Lapland, Finland. The trio, consisting of Simone Nehring (from Bremen post office), Artur Hajduk, and Ralf Schüttler, will cover nearly 3,000 kilometers on their yellow postal bicycles, without the use of an electric motor.
The journey begins at the Nikolaus post office in St. Nikolaus, Saarland, and will take them through Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and finally, to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland. Along the way, they will stop at postal branches in Bremen and Hamburg to collect additional wish lists.
The team's mission took on an extra layer of significance when they were entrusted with a personal letter from Saint Nicholas himself. Dressed in his long purple cape and holding a tall golden staff, Saint Nicholas handed over his own wish list to the cyclists, who are acting as his "elves." The letter reflects Saint Nicholas's hope to receive a reply from Santa Claus in Finland, creating a symbolic exchange between the two figures.
As they travel, the team will also be collecting donations for the "Bunter Kreis Hagen" association. The postal workers will hand over Saint Nicholas's personal letter, along with greetings and a postcard, at the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland.
The Nikolaus in Saarland expressed excitement about his unusual summer assignment. "I wish that Santa will answer my letter," he said, referring to the personal wish list he had given to the cyclists. Last winter, his volunteer team at the Nikolaus post office answered over 33,000 children's letters from around the world.
The team plans to travel mainly on country roads, covering 200 to 250 kilometers per day. A support vehicle will accompany them, transporting clothing, tools, and spare parts. They met while part of the national postal cycling team and have previously undertaken extreme tours, such as cycling from the Spreewald to Venice in 2024.
This current journey also serves a good cause, with donations being collected for the "Bunter Kreis Hagen" association. The journey is expected to last over two weeks.
