Get ready for a captivating journey into the world of botanical illustration! Join expert artist and illustrator Ruth Wharrier for her unique Level 3 Course in Botanical Drawing and Painting, set amidst the picturesque landscapes of Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve.
Expect a comprehensive exploration of various botanical drawing and painting techniques, botany, historical context, and field skills. An integral part of the course is understanding and respecting the natural world, with environmental and ecological awareness at the heart of each lesson.

Meet Your Mentor: Ruth Wharrier, PGCE, BA (Hons), EGS
Ruth, a graduate of the renowned Diploma in Botanical Illustration from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden, London, brings a wealth of experience as a botanical and wildlife illustrator and tutor for Suffolk Wildlife Trust.
Progression Routes:
Successfully completing this course can lead to further studies for the Level 4 qualification.
Entry Requirements:
While there are no formal qualifications necessary, students are expected to demonstrate a high level of motivation and commitment to botanical illustration. A pre-existing level of skill in drawing and painting, particularly observational drawing, is required or completion of a Level 2 in Botanical Drawing and Painting.
Course Duration:
A total of 12 days (5 hours) of guided learning over 6 months, meeting once a month from January to July. Check the schedule below for specific dates! Additional time will be needed for coursework during the week.

- January: 13th and 27th
- February: 10th
- March: 3rd and 17th
- April: 28th
- May: 12th and 19th
- June: 9th and 23rd
- July: 7th. Final project hand-in on July 21st.

Mondays, 10am - 3pm, Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve
