On the last weekend of September 2025, Böhming, a picturesque village in Kipfenberg, will play host to the 20th annual 'Altmühltal Lamb' event. This family-friendly event, taking place on the 27th and 28th of September, promises a delightful mix of educational activities, traditional customs, and culinary delights.

The highlight of the weekend will be the lamb drive across the Böhming Old Mill Bridge, a spectacle that has become a cherished tradition in the region. The herd, led by skilled herders, will make its way to the winter pastures, marking the beginning of a new season for these hardy animals.

Mayor Christian Wagner will welcome the herd, and special guests such as Alexander Flierl, the chairman of the Bavarian State Parliament's Environment and Consumer Protection Committee, will also attend the event.

Informative lectures and tours will provide fascinating insights into the local nature and the importance of the 'Altmühltal Lamb' project. Demonstrations of felting, spinning, and other craft techniques will showcase the traditional skills that have been passed down through generations.

Local gastronomes and associations will offer a variety of Altmühltal lamb specialties and other culinary delights, allowing visitors to taste the results of the project's success.

Children will not be left out of the fun, with interactive activities, a bouncy castle, and a hot air balloon distance competition providing hours of entertainment.

A large wool and craft market will take place along the Wirtsstraße, featuring over 50 stalls and booths. Here, visitors can browse and buy a wide range of handmade items, from woolen garments to intricately crafted accessories.

The 'Altmühltal Lamb' project not only ensures high-quality meat for consumers but also helps preserve the typical juniper heaths of the Altmühltal Nature Park. Without sheep grazing, the forest would quickly reclaim the area, potentially leading to the loss of rare plants like the gentian.

By supporting this event, you are helping to preserve the traditional way of life in the region, provide new job opportunities for shepherds, and protect the unique ecosystem of the Altmühltal Nature Park. So, mark your calendars for the last weekend of September 2025 and join the celebration in Böhming, Kipfenberg!
