Egypt's Rawya Mansour Drives Biochar Innovation at Arab Water Forum

The 6th Arab Water Forum is underway in Abu Dhabi, UAE, from September 16 to 18, 2024. Among the attendees is Rawya Mansour, a board member of the Arab Water Academy, representing Egypt's private sector. She is the driving force behind Ramsco Trading and Investment, a company using innovative biochar to enhance water efficiency and reduce emissions.

The forum, aiming to tackle water scarcity and promote innovation, has drawn attention to Mansour's work. Her company, Ramsco Trading and Investment, reduces irrigation water use by 30% through biochar in regenerative agriculture. This not only conserves water but also enhances soil quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and eliminates the need for pesticides.

Mansour, speaking at the forum, emphasized the importance of gender and youth empowerment in addressing food and water security. She also highlighted the potential of recycling agricultural waste, such as the 35 tons generated annually, as a significant investment opportunity that can create additional agricultural land.

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sewilam, is also attending the forum. He has praised Mansour's work and echoed her call for prioritizing water scarcity and climate change on political agendas. He also suggested subsidizing drip irrigation and increasing finance for climate change cooperation.

The 6th Arab Water Forum is providing a platform for innovative solutions to the Arab World's water scarcity problem. Rawya Mansour's work with Ramsco Trading and Investment is a testament to the potential of biochar in regenerative agriculture. Her vision includes creating zero-waste eco-villages to ensure food security, generate jobs, and contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. With such initiatives, the region is taking significant steps towards sustainable water management.
