Marissa Sasscer Takes a Break for Book Promotion
Exploring the Interwoven Paths of Spirituality and Creativity for Personal Growth
Marissa Sasscer, a dedicated student pursuing an Associate's Degree in Illustration, is taking a well-deserved break from her studies to promote her latest project: an engaging illustrated children's book titled Our Lady Undoer of Knots. This heartwarming book was published in May 2022.
Drawing Inspiration from History
In creating the illustrations for Our Lady Undoer of Knots, Sasscer drew inspiration from the original image of the same name, a painting by Johann Georg Schmidtner in Augsburg, Germany. The image, which depicts Mary untying knots in a long, tangled white ribbon, serves as a powerful symbol of hope and divine intervention in the face of life's difficulties.
Collaborative Efforts
Sasscer's work on Our Lady Undoer of Knots was a collaborative effort with author Sylvia Dorham. Together, they have worked on four projects, including a family guide to standing strong against human trafficking titled Avoiding the Octopus. The collaboration process was reminiscent of the art and design projects Sasscer undertook during her time at the institution, with Dorham providing a detailed Word document outlining the text and illustration notes.
Book Signings and Appearances
To celebrate the publication of Our Lady Undoer of Knots, Sasscer has been attending various events and venues for book signings. These include Artfest and Catholic Homeschooling Conferences, where she has had the opportunity to share her work with a wide audience.
A Rhyming Tale
The book uses rhyme to tell the story of a little boy who learns to approach Mary in this way, offering a charming and accessible introduction to the devotion.
