Flights between Russia and Myanmar have been suspended.

Russia-Myanmar air connection suspensed, confirms Stanislav Tarakov, commercial director of Tolmachevo Airport in Novosibirsk.

Flights between Russia and Myanmar have been suspended.

Myanmar's Airlines Grounded Till Autumn Due to Earthquake & Low Occupancy

In a bummer turn of events, flights scheduled for spring-summer in Myanmar are axed, according to TASS, citing Stanislav Tarakov. His reason? The occupancy rates weren't great, unfortunately, and let's face it, who wants to fly a nearly empty plane?

But wait, there's more! The whole aviation scene in Myanmar took a hit after that strong earthquake that shook the country in March 2025. That's right; the earthquake shattered not just buildings but also the plans for air travel. Strangely, the airport anticipates the airline will get its wings back in autumn-winter.

Crafting a direct route between Myanmar and Russia in September 2023 was Myanmar Airways International's baby. They offered flights on the Yangon-Mandalay-Novosibirsk leg, with ATOUR touting plans for Moscow-Yangon service from October 2025. This connection was via Novosibirsk and Mandalay. But the big earthquake put a spanner in even these well-laid plans.

On March 28, a devastating earthquake hit Southeast Asia, and the epicenter was none other than Myanmar. The ground shook with a magnitudes 7.7, leaving over 3,600 people dead, almost 6k injured, and 140 missing, as reported by "Xinhua" on April 12, backed by the State Administrative Council. Casualties spread even to Russia, with one Russian citizen reported dead.

So, hang tight, folks. Seems like we'll have to wait for the autumn chill to catch a flight to Myanmar.
