Germany-based couple departs, resulting in job losses and decreased car sales
Alessia Schuler and Robin Laub, a couple from Germany, are preparing for an exciting journey to Australia, the first stop on a larger global adventure. The pair has been planning this trip for a long time and have recently made significant preparations to make their dream a reality.
The couple has sold their two cars and cancelled their lease to save money for their trip. To fund their adventure, they have been living with their parents for a year. In order to support themselves during their stay in Australia, they are exploring options in agriculture and campsite jobs.
Upon landing, Alessia and Robin will take care of essential logistics such as setting up a bank account, obtaining a tax number, and activating a phone number. The tax number is crucial for them to be able to work in Australia, as they plan to apply for a second-year residence permit and need to prove they've worked for 88 days in a specific job.
Robin has also taken out a three-year health insurance policy to ensure they are covered during their travels. They have arranged a vehicle from Germany for their trip, a car with a roof tent for sleeping, which they will use to explore Australia and beyond.
Their plans for Australia extend for one to three years, but they are open to moving on earlier if they decide it's not for them. After Australia, they plan to visit Fiji, New Zealand, Thailand, and Papua New Guinea. While returning to Germany is a possibility, it would only be for a visit.
Alessia and Robin are keen to document their journey and share their experiences with others. They have packed an action camera and a drone to capture videos of their trip, including real-life experiences and any challenges they may face. They plan to use their TikTok channel and Instagram to show their journey and encourage young people to travel.
Their dream of travelling to Australia was initially thwarted by the Corona pandemic, but it was revived when they met each other. The optician and the KfZ mechatroniker have been a couple for two years and have both harbored the dream of Australia for many years, separately.
Their journey begins now, and they are ready to pack their backpacks and keep going. Whether they'll be picking blueberries in a farm or setting up camp at a campsite, one thing is certain - Alessia Schuler and Robin Laub are about to embark on an unforgettable adventure.
