Giessen's Elephant Toilet to Lead Christmas Parade
Giessen's Elephant Restroom will take centre stage this Christmas, pulling the city's festive ball. Sales for the event start in mid-November. The restroom, a local landmark, is more than just a toilet; it's the heart of 'In the middle' actions and a symbol of Giessen's unique charm, dubbed 'elefantastic'.
The Elephant Restroom stands at the corner of Schulstrasse and Waagenstrasse, where a green sign reminds passersby of its history. Once, this spot was the Elephant Square, home to exotic animals in the past. Before that, in the 19th century, historical figures were exhibited on Schulstraße, then known as the Botanical Garden.
This year, the restroom will pull the Giessen Christmas ball, with sales starting soon. It's a fitting role for a structure that's become a hub for innovative inner-city promotion, creativity, and community spirit. The 'Giessen is ELEFANTASIC because...' action highlights these aspects, with elephant tracks set to appear across the city this summer, courtesy of Giessen's Economic Development. To celebrate, colourful T-shirts featuring the elephant restroom motif are on sale for 14.95 € each.
The Elephant Restroom's role in the Christmas ball and the 'ELEFANTASIC' action underscore Giessen's unique identity. Backed by the Economic Development of Hesse, these initiatives aim to enhance the city's appeal and quality of stay. With the restroom at its heart, Giessen continues to embrace its 'elefantastic' spirit.
