Veterans Cafe and Grill in Myrtle Beach Gets a Warm Makeover

The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center has taken on a new project to support veterans - the renovation of the Veterans Cafe and Grill in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This renovation, overseen by CEO and Air Force veteran Scott Douban, has transformed the space into a living museum and shrine to military service members.

The cafe, located on a former Air Force base, is now a place of comfort and community for veterans, where they gather and find support. The renovation was a group effort, involving veterans like Joey Dent Tino, an experienced painter who lent his skills to the project.

The renovated space honors the unique contributions of all who have served in the military. Each branch of the military has its own dedicated area, filled with military memorabilia, including photos, uniforms, artifacts, and articles.

One of the most notable pieces of memorabilia is George's uniform on the wall, his first fatigues from Vietnam. George, an Air Force veteran and regular at the cafe, was the first to contribute to the collection. He stated that if he's not at home, he's usually at the Veterans Cafe and Grill.

The renovation has also included the creation of a timeline of military history, with artifacts and stories staged by era. This timeline covers military history from World War I to the present day, providing a comprehensive look at the history of military service.

Joey Dent Tino, who worked on the renovation, expressed his admiration for the Veterans Cafe and Grill, stating that there's more honor in the Veterans Cafe and Grill than there might be in the entire country.

The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center's renovation of the Veterans Cafe and Grill is part of their ongoing mission to support veterans. The cafe serves as a testament to the sacrifices and achievements of military service members and provides a space for veterans to come together and find support.
