Green Panther Amazonia Project Concludes With Berlin Celebration
The Amazon project has concluded with a celebration in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The project, aimed at connecting journalists from both continents to highlight international connections driving deforestation, ended with a public event and a joint podcast with Brazilian colleagues.
Over the course of the project, ten journalists from eight Latin American countries visited Berlin for a week of discussions and workshops. The seminar was diverse, with participants from different countries, languages, and themes. They explored topics related to the Amazon region, including the climate crisis exacerbating issues such as droughts, forest fires, and floods, as well as ongoing deforestation despite recent decreases in Brazil.
The project resulted in numerous articles and a supplement on the Amazon region. It also provided support to journalists in Latin America who face pressure and attacks, especially those reporting on environmental crimes. The project included online events and practical seminars to help these journalists navigate the challenges they face.
The Amazon project has ended, leaving behind a wealth of information and support for journalists in Latin America. The project's success is evident in the numerous articles and the supplement created, as well as the public event and joint podcast that marked its conclusion. The project's aim to connect journalists from both continents and shed light on international connections driving deforestation has been achieved, and its impact is expected to continue.
