Halle's Recognition at the Children and Youth Culture Prize for Saxony-Anhalt

In the spirit of the motto 'Hocus Pocus', the 28th Children and Youth Culture Award of the state Saxony-Anhalt was formally bestowed upon recipients at the Art House Salzwedel.

Halle's Recognition at the Children and Youth Culture Prize for Saxony-Anhalt

In a celebration of creativity and cultural education, the youth editorial team "Wuterus" Radio Corax from Halle (Saale) has been crowned the winner of the 28th Children and Youth Culture Prize of Saxony-Anhalt. The team, consisting of Antonia Senkel, Nele Seibert, Philippa Brenner, and Martha Kaltwaßer, took home the first prize worth 2,000 euros for their two-part series "Hexen".

Coordinated by the Landesvereinigung kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung Sachsen-Anhalt e.V., the annual competition saw over 120 creative entries submitted by more than 800 children and young people from across the state. The jury, comprising experts from various cultural fields, including visual arts, theater, dance, music, literature, and film, praised the four young people, aged 15 to 19, for their impressive self-reliance, depth, and professionalism in tackling a historically and socially relevant topic.

Dr. Sebastian Putz, State Secretary for Culture, presented the prizes, worth a total of 6,500 euros, at the Kunsthaus Salzwedel. He emphasised the importance of socio-cultural engagement for social cohesion, cultural education, and participation in Saxony-Anhalt. The Culture State Secretary also commended the imagination and commitment of the young talents, as demonstrated by the creative entries in the competition.

The jury was particularly enchanted by the children's playful, warm-hearted, and personal approaches to creating magical worlds using paper collages. One of two promotion prizes, each worth 500 euros, went to 26 children aged 6 to 11 from Halle for their stop-motion project "Weltenbauer in Aktion".

Looking ahead, the theme for the 29th Children and Youth Culture Prize is "Mach doch!", encouraging participants to take action and create. The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2026. As the competition continues to foster creativity and cultural education among the youth of Saxony-Anhalt, it serves as a crucial driver for making the state vibrant and future-oriented.

The winners, Antonia Senkel, Nele Seibert, Philippa Brenner, and Martha Kaltwaßer, Instilled impressions of self-reliance and professionalism, captivating the jury with their exploration of historical topics through 'Hexen'. Their triumphant win was facilitated by the annual competition organized by the Landesvereinigung kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung Sachsen-Anhalt e.V., a platform that showcased over 800 creative entries in diverse sectors of lifestyle, including fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, home-and-garden, relationships, pets, travel, cars, and shopping.

Dr. Sebastian Putz, State Secretary for Culture, further emphasized the significance of the competition as a cultural educator and contributor to social cohesion. The honors, consisting of a first prize of 2,000 euros, and two promotion prizes of 500 euros each, transparently illustrated his words, celebrating the imagination and dedication of the young talents.

Taking inspiration from the competition, one might be compelled to participate in next year's theme, "Mach doch!", an encouragement to take action in creating and shaping the future. As the deadline for submissions on April 1, 2026, approaches, the Youth Culture Prize continues to cultivate a community of vibrant and future-oriented contributors across various sectors in Saxony-Anhalt.
