Homeowners in Krasnodar region show preference for mobile residences, citing flexibility and adaptability.

In the realm of travel, more and more Krasnodar locals are eyeing motorhomes for their next vacay. Yet, just like any adventure, there's no escaping the setbacks. Freedom of movement is just one perk, but maintaining standards in campgrounds and poor roadside services are obstacles our motorhome enthusiasts face. So, is the Russian landscape ready to cater to this tourism sector's demands? Could a motorhome trip save you some vacation dough?

In the 2024 forecast, Krasnodar residents are 7% more likely to dare the motorhome journey. This intriguing fact comes courtesy of "Avito Auto" analysts, who examined the demand for used motorhomes in 2023 and 2024. The most in-demand brand among Krasnodar residents? Lunar, taking the top spot.

Autotourism's escalation is a global trend, attributable to the limplication of foreign trips, causing Russians to opt for domestic escapades instead. As Larisa Harmash, founder of the Woof Travel Vanlife channel points out: "Traveling by train to resorts takes longer and is less comfy, so a car becomes a no-brainer." The development of the road network is another factor driving interest, with the Central Ring Road and temporary bypass roads making journeys smoother and swifter.

Kuban capitalizes on its prolonged tourist season and mild climate, attracting auto-tourists with beaches, entertainment for every taste, and improving services. But, it's the beach holidays that grab the spotlight, becoming more accessible due to new roads.

However, auto-tourism isn't without its flaws. Fuel and tolls remain pricey, and while road quality has improved, roadside services remain below par. Larisa Garmaš sums it up: "Roadside cafes haven't caught up with the times. Finding a hot meal is tough; it's all pastries, hot dogs, and pies." Plus, the lack of a centralized database for stopping spots makes planning a route challenging.

Campgrounds are scarce, with RV owners needing basic infrastructure to refill water, drain gray water, and empty chemical toilets. Some gas stations may even shut off fresh water taps in winter, leaving travelers to search for expensive campgrounds or violate rules by dumping liquid in roadside ditches. Emptying the chemical toilet is equally troublesome, with full toll road toilets and rare chemical cassette drains causing long waits for travelers.

To address these challenges, industry experts suggest starting with standards, ensuring everyone knows the rules and travelers know what to expect. Val Kovalevskiy, founder of the glamping and eco-hotel booking service Naturalist Travel, notes the lack of suitable locations for motorhome travel on the highway and scarce official facilities on the Black Sea coast.

Interestingly, campers are rare and costly, with Sobol-based auto-homes from GAS being the only major domestic producer. Meanwhile, trailers are the favored choice due to their affordability and convenience. If buying a motorhome seems like a stretch, motorhome rental might be the answer, as it saves money, particularly for families with no need for multiple plane tickets and accommodations.
