India's SATCOM Market Set for Exponential Growth to $14.8B by 2033
India's satellite communication (SATCOM) market is set for exponential growth, with a projected tripling from $4.3 billion in 2024 to $14.8 billion by 2033. This follows the country's rapid 5G rollout, connecting 99.9% of its population in under two years. The government aims to replicate this speed in SATCOM deployment.
Currently, satellite communication services are in the trial phase, with commercial use of satellite spectrum yet to be allocated. However, major players like Starlink, Eutelsat OneWeb, and Reliance Jio-SES have received licences to start satellite broadband services. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasised the necessity of satellite communication for inclusive digital growth, particularly in remote regions where physical infrastructure is lacking.
Leading the charge is Eutelsat Communications, with Bharti Enterprises' chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal confirming Eutelsat OneWeb's readiness to launch services upon government approval. The CEO of Eutelsat, involved in India's rapid SATCOM expansion, plans to scale services as part of the global strategy.
With the SATCOM market poised for significant growth, India is set to rapidly expand its satellite communication networks. This will not only boost digital connectivity but also drive inclusive growth, reaching areas previously untouched by traditional infrastructure.
