A Real Life Story - Michelle and Jonas
Ciao, Vito friends! We're Michelle and Jonas, a dynamic duo behind @shellys_vanlifeadventure, and today we're excited to share our first project: the Mercedes Vito 114 CDI in extra-long format.
We were fortunate that the former owner had installed a window in the rear and a sliding window on the side, providing sufficient brightness for the vehicle.
After performing a comprehensive cleaning and treating potential rust spots, we moved on to soundproofing (Alubytil). Over this, we install a heat insulation (Armaflex) and set up the cables for the lights. Moreover, we mounted a solar panel on the roof so our van can be self-sufficient anywhere.
Next, we layered a cork insulation on the floor, followed by the installation of the carpet. The Bus4fun carpet was our choice for perfect floor covering.
We were incredibly proud of the progress we made. Countless YouTube videos were instrumental in our conversion process.
The main part was already completed to turn a small transporter into a cozy camper. Since we had no woodworking skills, we ordered the CampBoks lite from Austria for the side panels, custom-made to fit our van precisely.
Now came the challenge - the small kitchen.
For 6 weeks, we worked diligently on the kitchen, screwing, sawing, and measuring. However, there were always complications that consumed time and energy. There even were moments when we felt frustrated. But Michelle's father's positive energy and innovative ideas kept us going. We are grateful for his help.
In our small yet fabulous kitchen, we installed a 5 kg gas bottle, a 56-liter compressor refrigerator, a Primus 2-burner stove, a BOXIO Toilet, and 2 large storage compartments. Moreover, there are small storage compartments beneath the front seats, accessible via heavy-duty rails.
We chose a BOXIO Wash because it looks nice and the sink is large enough for washing. By adding a shower head, it converts into a practical outdoor shower.
Since we didn't want to pump water manually, we installed a 2-bar submersible pump. Under the sink are 13 liters of fresh and wastewater, as well as an Alko water filter system. In our CampBoks, we also have 2 freshwater canisters, providing a total of 39 liters of fresh water in our mini van.
We are really looking forward to the adventures we will experience with our little van in the future!
