Island Leader Announces Retirement: "Notable Shift in Leadership" - Island Leader's Departure Signals Substantial Shift: "Large Transformation Ahead"

17 years at the helm of the famed "Flower Island," Mainau, is coming to an end for Bettina Countess Bernadotte. As she prepares to pass the baton, she expresses a mix of emotions about closing one chapter and anxiously anticipating the next. "I can't exactly pinpoint what I'll be doing next," she shared with the "South Kurier" in Konstanz. She's excited for the new challenges that lie ahead and is curious to see what's in store.

Stepping down as co-managing director of Mainau Island on Lake Bodensee, Countess Bernadotte announced her departure on Tuesday. She believes that bringing in external expertise will benefit the island's management. Her brother, Count Björn Bernadotte, will continue in his current role.

"A profound shift, emotionally charged"

Reflecting on her decision, Countess Bernadotte shared, "This is a significant turning point, both emotionally and otherwise, because I know I'm closing a chapter." Grateful for the 25 "marvelous Mainau years" she's had in total, she's eager to discover what's next while being confident that the decision is right for Mainau Island. She plans to relinquish her position by the year's end.

With over a million visitors annually, Mainau is a top tourist destination on Lake Bodensee. Often referred to as the "Flower Island," it showcases stunning park and garden landscapes, a baroque castle, a palm house, and a butterfly house on approximately 45 hectares of land.
