Kazakh-German Institute 'NEXUS' Launched to Tackle Climate Change and Resource Management
An international conference in Almaty on September 19 marked a significant milestone in the establishment of the Kazakh-German Institute 'NEXUS'. This institute aims to become a hub for Kazakh and international researchers, focusing on sustainable management of natural resources and digital technologies.
The NEXUS Institute, led by the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, will be based on the campus of the Kazakh National Agrarian University. It plans to tackle crucial issues such as soil and water management, energy efficiency, and biodiversity protection. Specific projects include creating roadmaps for mountain and glacier ecosystems, expanding academic mobility, and developing clima risk financing frameworks.
The institute is a joint effort between the Kazakh-German University, the Hanns-Seidel Foundation, and the National Academy of Sciences. It aims to train professionals equipped to handle clima change challenges and prevent soil degradation and desertification. The conference discussed key priorities like clima resilience, energy transition, regional cooperation, and sustainable value chains.
The Kazakh-German Institute 'NEXUS' is set to become a scientific-pedagogical center, fostering international collaboration and research in sustainable development. With its focus on modern educational platforms and joint research projects, it promises to make a significant impact on Kazakhstan's environmental and scientific landscape.
