Lagos Aims to Be Africa's Tourism Hub: ETF Meets UN, Plans Academy
Former Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, led the Eko Tourism Foundation's (ETF) delegation in a significant meeting. The foundation, established to foster government and private sector collaboration on tourism, aims to promote Lagos as Africa's premier tourism hub.
Over 20,000 events are held in Lagos monthly, indicating the need for dedicated event centers. The initiative, part of ETF's objectives, seeks to showcase tourism opportunities in Lagos State. In a notable development, Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the UN Tourism Organization, led the UN delegation and accepted ETF's invitation to serve as Patron and honorary member.
During a roundtable in Lagos, it was decided to establish a tourism academy in partnership with UN Tourism. This academy will serve as a driver of sustainable socio-economic development, with Destination Nigeria acting as a catalyst. The foundation aims to be a partner for local and international stakeholders in the tourism industry and champion the global marketing of Destination Lagos.
