Nationwide Storytelling Journey Initiated by America250

America250, an organization dedicated to capturing the essence of the American experience, has launched a nationwide storytelling tour. The tour, which began on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., aims to create the largest-ever archive of personal oral and visual histories in U.S. history.

The tour will travel across the United States, visiting various locations, including the deep south, tribal nations, and rural America. The goal is to highlight thousands of personal histories across the nation, with the collected voices finding a permanent home in the Library of Congress.

The tour features a fleet of Airstream RV's transformed into mobile recording studios. Individuals can participate by visiting a tour stop when the Airstream studios arrive or by nominating someone whose story should be told. The project invites people from all backgrounds to share their stories, with the aim of creating a collective legacy that inspires current and future generations.

The tour's kickoff featured a discussion with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Washington Commanders Hall of Famer Darrell Green. Bowser stated, "We're proud to be the starting point of The American Story." Green added, "This [D.C.] is the light. Everything starts here."

America250 Chair Rosie Rios aims to hear from Americans across the nation about the histories and stories that matter most to them. The collected oral and visual histories will be featured in documentaries, digital media, and broadcasts, as well as in a series of public videos during the semi-quincentennial (250th anniversary) of the United States, which is less than a year away.

For those interested in staying informed about tour dates, featured stories, and participation opportunities, follow the project on social media, such as @America250 on Instagram. Together, we can preserve and share the personal stories that make up the rich tapestry of the American experience.
