Nissan's ROAM: Transforming Old EV Batteries into Portable Camping Power
Nissan has unveiled an innovative concept called ROAM, transforming old electric car batteries into a portable power station for campers. The system, announced on March 1, 2022, can power various camping essentials and reduce the need for diesel generators.
ROAM supports charging of multiple camping essentials, including smartphones, lights, a projector, a microwave, a small fridge, and a two-burner gas stove. It can power small devices, appliances, lights, and heating in a camping trailer, providing both 230-volt and 12-volt circuits.
The battery pack, which can store up to 700Wh of electricity and provide up to 1kW of power output, can be easily removed and recharged using a 230v domestic socket or the solar panel accessory in about an hour. With solar power, ROAM can provide a seven-day power supply to the trailer, significantly reducing emissions and noise pollution.
The trailer comes with a pop-up camper that inflates in just 90 seconds using the ROAM power pack. This concept, developed by Nissan, aims to enhance the camping experience while promoting sustainability.
Nissan's ROAM concept, using repurposed electric car batteries, offers a clean and convenient power solution for campers. With its ability to charge various devices, reduce reliance on diesel generators, and inflate a pop-up camper, ROAM presents an exciting innovation in sustainable camping.
