Hanoi Sets Up Over 1,000 Free Public Toilets for National Day Celebrations

Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, is gearing up for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) by providing over 1,000 free public toilets for visitors during the celebrations.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with military units, local authorities, and the Hanoi Urban Environment Company (URENCO), has set up more than 1,000 free public toilets across the city. These include 612 mobile toilets and 400 existing toilets opened free of charge at local agencies, schools, hospitals, cafes, and private homes.

The toilets are strategically located in major areas such as Ba Dinh Square, Ngoc Ha, Giang Vo, Hoan Kiem, Cua Nam, O Cho Dua, and Hai Ba Trung wards, closely around parade routes and fireworks venues. The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has placed 800 rubbish bins along these routes to ensure cleanliness.

To make it easier for visitors to find these facilities, "Free Toilet" logos have been installed, and their exact locations have been updated on Google Maps. Staff will be stationed at each mobile toilet to assist users and keep the facilities clean.

Local authorities in Hai Ba Trung ward have joined the initiative, with 35 households participating and 45 mobile toilets installed. Businesses like Highland Coffee have pledged to open their toilets in central Hanoi free of charge and assign staff to guide visitors.

In addition to the free public toilets, URENCO is increasing street sweeping, washing, and waste collection along parade routes, with workers positioned every 500m. Six thousand three hundred youth volunteers will be mobilized to help collect litter and remind spectators not to discard waste indiscriminately.

Chairman of the Ha Noi People's Committee, Trần Sỹ Thạnh, is overseeing the preparations, while Ngô Thái Nam, Director of the department's Centre for Agricultural and Environmental Techniques, has overseen the installation of "Free Toilet" logos and updates on Google Maps for these 400 locations.

URENCO General Director Pham Van Duc is preparing additional temporary facilities and backup units to ensure adequate capacity. Nguyen Minh Huong, Chief of the ward People's Committee Office, supports the initiative as a practical and civilized effort.

Buoi Van Hien, a local shop owner, sees opening his toilet to the public as a small gesture meeting an essential need during the parade. The arrangements aim to provide convenient, safe, and hygienic restroom access for residents and tourists enjoying the National Day festivities in Hanoi.
