PDX Airport Terminal Master Guide: Comprehensive Insight into Portland International Terminals
Portland International Airport (PDX) is a convenient and welcoming hub for travellers, offering a variety of services and amenities. Located at N.E. Airport Way and N.E. 82nd Avenue, the cell phone waiting lot allows visitors to park for free for up to 30 minutes.
For those seeking accommodation, the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel is situated on airport property, just under a mile from the terminal building. Alternatively, the Aloft Portland Airport Hotel at Cascade Station, while not on airport property, is close to several attractions like the Portland Art Museum, Washington Park, and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
PDX provides foreign currency services in the international arrivals area, making international travel more seamless. ATMs can be found throughout the airport, in the main terminal, and in the concourses.
Luggage storage facilities are not available at PDX, but passengers can find reasonably priced big lots at $15 per day. The red and blue economy parking lots, southeast of the airport near I-205, offer 7,900 spaces. Courtesy shuttle buses run between the terminal and the parking lots every 7 to 9 minutes from 4 a.m. to midnight and every 15 minutes outside of regular hours.
For those who prefer a more luxurious stay, the Embassy Suites Portland - Airport offers free made-to-order breakfast, an indoor pool, a Jacuzzi, a 24-hour-a-day fitness center, an on-site restaurant, and a free on-demand shuttle to the airport. Another option is the Hyatt Place Portland Airport/Cascade Station, which offers free daily breakfast, 24/7 dining, a fitness center, a pool, and a shuttle to and from the airport.
Travellers can arrange to meet their ride-sharing driver on the lower-level roadway outside of the terminal. Lyft, Uber, and Wingz operate from PDX, and each ride-sharing provider has a designated area on the second island. Scheduled and charter buses also operate to and from PDX, stopping outside the terminal on the lower roadway.
Smoking is only permitted in designated areas outside of the terminal, and there are no smoking areas past security. The TriMet MAX Light Rail station is outside the terminal at the south end of the ticketing lobby, with trains departing every 15 minutes from the airport, costing $2.80 for 3 hours of ride time or $5.60 for a day pass. A taxi from PDX to Downtown Portland costs around $35, not including the tip, and takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
PDX offers a range of parking options, including the long-term garage with direct access to the terminal via pedestrian tunnels, and the short-term garage adjacent to the terminal, connected via a pedestrian bridge, offering the quickest access to the terminal. Disabled parking is available within all airport parking lots, closest to the elevators in the covered parking lots and nearest to the bus shelters in the economy lots.
The rental car center at PDX is next to the short-term parking garage and is accessible through the south tunnel. The following companies are on airport property: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Sixt, Thrifty, Zipcar.
In 2024, PDX reintroduced patches of the old carpet from the early 1990s in certain areas of the airport as part of its overall renovation. Patches of the old carpet can be found using the airport map and the last filter.
Passengers can reach customer service at PDX at 503-460-4234. PDX ranked No. 1 in a best airport study for its on-time performance, access to public transport, free Wi-Fi, lounge access, and overall passenger satisfaction with facilities. PDX is in the midst of a $2 billion redevelopment project to expand its concourses and security checkpoints, develop a new rental car facility and additional parking, and improve airside facilities, with phased development scheduled to be complete by early 2026.
However, PDX does not have duty-free shops, but all shops are required to charge the same as shops not in the airport due to no sales tax in Oregon. Limousines and town cars pick up and drop off on the lower-level roadway near the parking garage, and there are no luggage storage facilities at PDX.
