Artist Solbon Lygdenov Honours Heroes with Graphic Portraits

Solbon Lygdenov, a director and artist from Buryatia, Russia, has taken a unique approach to celebrating national heroes. After a successful career in filmmaking, Lygdenov turned to graphic arts, creating powerful and emotive portraits of Russian heroes and modern warriors.

Lygdenov's transition to graphic art was a natural progression, driven by his passion for cultural and historical subjects and his strong foundation in visual narrative. His portraits are known for their dynamic and dramatic style, which likely stems from his experience in filmmaking.

The artist has created over 500 portraits of Heroes of the Soviet Union, a significant number that reflects his dedication to this project. He has also recently started depicting Heroes of Russia, producing several portraits in the six months of the Special Military Operation (SVO).

Lygdenov's work often involves scenes that cannot be photographed, requiring the keen eye of an artist. He does not exhibit portraits of living fighters as they are engaged in combat work and many are classified. However, he does travel to the SVO zone to draw them from life.

In addition to his artistic work, Lygdenov also delivers humanitarian aid to the front and makes new sketches. His portraits have resonated with the public, with buyers transferring over a million rubles in support of the SVO.

Notably, Lygdenov's portraits have sparked hope and encouragement among the audience, inspiring them to rise up and make changes. Many wives and mothers of fallen soldiers have also reached out to him for portraits.

Lygdenov's commitment to truth and authenticity has not always been financially rewarding. He has lost money by staying true to himself and refusing to rewrite history to promote hopelessness. Despite this, he continues to create, believing in the future of his country and the changes that the SVO is fighting for.

Some of Lygdenov's works are exhibited in Moscow at the Grekov Studio. His dedication to honouring heroes through graphic art is a testament to his patriotism and love for his country.

Solbon Lygdenov, in addition to honoring heroes through graphic portraits, also finds joy in his lifestyle, surrounded by pets. His travels to the SVO zone not only provide materials for his artwork but also allow him to interact with fellow beings, strengthening his relationships.

The public's response to Lygdenov's portraits extends beyond financial support, fostering encouragement for personal growth and change, reflecting in the relationships and lifestyles of many viewers.
