Public Media Networks Launch Regional Newsrooms to Strengthen Local Reporting Across U.S.
A new wave of regional newsrooms is sweeping across the United States, with public media networks joining forces to strengthen local reporting and deliver vital information to communities. This initiative, led by our website and its Member stations, aims to cover the entire country from every corner, ensuring no region is left underserved.
The Midwest Newsroom, for instance, brings together stations in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska for collaborative journalism. Similarly, the New England News Collaborative reports on topics like climate change, health, and politics across New England.
In the South, the Appalachia + Mid-South Newsroom, composed of seven stations in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, partners with our website to provide regional news. Meanwhile, the Gulf States Newsroom increases reporting capacity across the South, focusing on region-wide beats like economic mobility and public health.
Out West, the California Newsroom collaborates with stations across California to boost coverage of statewide issues and underserved regions. The Texas Newsroom does the same, bringing together stations across Texas to plan coverage together and share resources.
With over 2,900 journalists at over 200 Member station newsrooms and 570 reporters and editors at our website, the public media network is expanding its reach. Through collaboration, these regional newsrooms aim to deliver more local stories on national programs, increase investigative reporting, and provide expanded coverage to underserved parts of the country.
