Bucket List Trips Ranked: A Traveler's Dream
Ranking of the World's 15 Awe-Inspiring Travel Destinations Based on a Recently Published Study
Dream destinations and thrilling experiences vary from person to person, yet some adventures resonate with many travel enthusiasts. To unveil the most coveted travel experiences globally, adventure tourism company Skyhook polled 4,000 individuals worldwide about their travel desires.
Survey participants were asked to choose their top three activities from a list of fifteen widely popular travel goals. Offerings included tackling Mount Kilimanjaro, gliding over Cappadocia in a hot air balloon, embarking on an Antarctica cruise, venturing into space, and trekking with gorillas.
As it turns out, witnessing the Northern Lights claimed the top spot on the global bucket list. Travelers flock to countries such as Iceland, Norway, Sweden, or Finland for a chance to behold this dazzling display, often subjected to the chilly middle-of-the-night wake-up calls when the sky bursts with green, pink, and purple hues. Some even stay in glass igloos for a closer view of the celestial show. Not surprisingly, the Northern Lights captivate the Gen Z generation, with an impressive 6 out of 10 Gen Z members listing it as a must-do.
Though the Northern Lights can occasionally be spotted in parts of the United States like Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, and other northern states, geomagnetic storms in May enabled the aurora borealis to shimmer in regions further south than usual.
Cruising to Antarctica garnered the interest of Baby Boomers, with 46% of them marking it as a top travel aspiration. These journeys offer a unique opportunity to encounter penguin colonies and humpback whales amidst glaciers, gaining popularity among modern-day adventurers. However, environmentalists have cautioned that more stringent rules are required to preserve Antarctica's wildlife from the repercussions of "last-chance" tourism.
Amazingly, the sole U.S. location found on the top 15 list was a trip to the majestic Grand Canyon. A favorite attraction in America with over 6 million visitors each year, the Grand Canyon measures an impressive 277 miles with steep cliffs dropping more than a mile to the canyon's floor. Visitors flock to view the breathtaking vistas from various lookout points, camp within the national park, or raft the Colorado River that flows through the heart of the canyon.
