SAS Set to Rebuild Aviation Connection: Long-Awaited Direct Flights Between Scandinavia and India After Nearly Two Decades

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced that it will be operating a direct flight from Copenhagen to Mumbai starting on June 2, 2026. This marks SAS's first direct flight to India in 17 years.

The service will operate five weekly flights in each direction between Copenhagen (CPH) and Mumbai (BOM) using an Airbus A330 aircraft. The route is considered strategically important by SAS, as it aims to strengthen its global relevance and expand its reach.

The Airbus A330 will take off from Copenhagen at 1.30pm on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, landing in Mumbai at 1.30am. In the other direction, the Airbus A330 will leave Mumbai at 6am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, arriving in Copenhagen at 11.45am.

Mumbai, one of the main financial hubs in India, is a natural next step in SAS's strategy to link Scandinavia with one of the world's most important regions for business and leisure travel. SAS President and CEO Anko van der Werff stated that India is a key global market.

The new route is expected to benefit leisure and business travellers based in Denmark and southern Sweden, as well as strengthening business ties between Scandinavia and India. SAS hopes the route will also offer improved transfers between India and other destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, and North America.

The year-round route between Copenhagen and Mumbai, if approved, will commence on June 2nd, 2026. This move strengthens Copenhagen's role as a global hub and supports increased connectivity between India and Northern Europe, as well as between India and North America.

The new route is subject to final government approval. SAS believes the route is a response to growing travel demand, and it is expected to provide non-stop connectivity between Scandinavia and India's financial capital, enhancing ties between the regions and facilitating transfers to Europe and North America.

SAS's new route from Copenhagen to Mumbai, starting on June 2, 2026, is a significant step in linking Scandinavia with one of the world's most important regions for business and leisure travel. With the Airbus A330 flights operating five times a week, the new route is anticipated to benefit both leisure and business travelers, while also strengthening business ties between Scandinavia and India.
