Secure Airports for Hassle-Free Baggage Retrieval: Top Picks Revealed
In a recent study conducted by AirAdvisor, Darwin International Airport in Australia has been named the world's safest airport for baggage claim. This is followed by Cardiff Airport in Wales, UK, and Tijuana International Airport in Mexico rounding out the top three.
Highlighting the lack of Portuguese airports on the list, AirAdvisor indicates that Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon ranked 31st in the safety ranking. Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor, expressed that Portuguese airports pose a moderate risk, implying that infrastructure and security processes in the country still require improvement, especially at high-volume airports like Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon.
The study assessed 53 airports across the globe, with those having well-located baggage claim areas, fast processes, and an efficient security infrastructure being identified as the safest. Among the top ten safest airports are Darwin International Airport (Australia), Cardiff Airport (Wales, UK), Tijuana International Airport (Mexico), Belfast International Airport (Northern Ireland), Adelaide International Airport (Australia), Perth International Airport (Australia), Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (France), Guadalajara International Airport (Mexico), Glasgow International Airport (Scotland), and Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (Canada).
Radchenko further explains the ranking's purpose to inform passengers about airports with the lowest risk of incidents, as there has been an increasing trend of theft and lost luggage cases, especially during the rise in air travel with summer approach.
AirAdvisor advises passengers on steps to take when experiencing baggage losses or delays. In such cases, passengers may be entitled to compensation of up to €1,300, as stipulated by EU Regulation 889/2002. The reimbursement may cover additional expenses incurred while waiting for baggage delivery, provided passengers act promptly, within a timeframe that typically ranges from 7 to 21 days depending on the situation. It is also crucial to keep all flight receipts and necessary expense receipts for reimbursement purposes.
AirAdvisor has developed an online tool to help passengers determine if they are eligible for compensation. This tool can be accessed here.
