In a recent study conducted by AirAdvisor, Darwin International Airport in Australia has been named the world's safest airport for baggage claim. This is followed by Cardiff Airport in Wales, UK, and Tijuana International Airport in Mexico rounding out the top three.
Highlighting the lack of Portuguese airports on the list, AirAdvisor indicates that Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon ranked 31st in the safety ranking. Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor, expressed that Portuguese airports pose a moderate risk, implying that infrastructure and security processes in the country still require improvement, especially at high-volume airports like Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon.
The study assessed 53 airports across the globe, with those having well-located baggage claim areas, fast processes, and an efficient security infrastructure being identified as the safest. Radchenko further explains the ranking's purpose to inform passengers about airports with the lowest risk of incidents, as there has been an increasing trend of theft and lost luggage cases, especially during the rise in air travel with summer approach.

In such cases, passengers may be entitled to compensation of up to €1,300, as stipulated by EU Regulation 889/2002.
