Street Preacher John Steele Vindicated as Charges Dropped
Christian street preacher John Steele, 60, has been vindicated after charges were dropped against him. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) decided prosecution was 'not needed in the public interest'.
Mr. Steele was arrested on 21 June 2025 in Rotherham town centre under Section 50 of the Police Reform Act 2002. His crime? Asking a Muslim woman about the Quran's stance on domestic violence during a 30-second conversation. The incident was captured on police body cam footage.
Initially, Mr. Steele was threatened with a 'non-crime hate incident' (NCHI) and forced to provide personal details. However, the case was later dropped, and he was released. The former miner and bus driver has preached the gospel in public spaces for 25 years without prior incidents.
The swift action against Mr. Steele contrasts with South Yorkshire Police's inaction regarding the systematic rape of young girls by predominantly Islamic men in Rotherham. This irony has not gone unnoticed.
John Steele's charges were discontinued, and he was vindicated. The CPS's decision not to prosecute reflects the lack of public interest in the case. Despite initial threats, Mr. Steele's right to ask questions and express his beliefs was ultimately upheld.
