Swisscom to dramatically decrease roaming charges for travels abroad

Effective June 1st, Switzerland's leading telecommunications provider, Swisscom, will implement reduced roaming charges for data usage in over a hundred countries. The announcement details a potential price reduction of up to 66% for roaming, depending on the specific locations.

According to Swisscom's statements, the reduction will significantly benefit customers. For instance, the cost of 1 gigabyte in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom (UK) will drop from 14.90 francs to 9.90 francs, and the price for 5 gigabytes will decrease from 39.39 francs to 29.90. The 10-gigabyte package will be replaced by a 20-gigabyte package, priced at the previous 10-gigabyte rate.

The reduced charges will apply not only to the EU and the UK but also to other regions such as the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, India, Thailand, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Egypt, among others. Further countries are expected to be added to the offer in the autumn.

Regarding its Mobile S and L customers, Swisscom has additional good news. Effective July 1st, 2025, Mobile S and L customers will receive 1 gigabyte of data roaming per month in Germany, France, Italy, and Austria. Furthermore, 100 megabytes of data roaming per month will be included for all other roaming zones worldwide.

Mobile L customers will also enjoy an additional 10 gigabytes of data per year in the USA, Canada, Turkey, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, as well as 2.5 gigabytes per year in all other roaming zones globally.

While Swisscom's move aims to make roaming more affordable for its customers, the exact rates for each country or region may vary. For a comprehensive understanding of the fees in over a hundred countries, it's advised to check directly with Swisscom or their official website. It's also essential to be aware of ways to avoid large 'roaming' phone bills while visiting Switzerland.

With the reduction in roaming charges, Swisscom customers can expect to enjoy cheaper data usage while traveling in various parts of the world, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, India, Thailand, Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Egypt. Moreover, the affordable lifestyle offered by Swisscom extends beyond travel as their finance-savvy customers can also benefit from reduced data costs in lifestyle sectors like entertainment and finance through technology.
