Eyeing the Waves: Iconic Seascapes at Lake Tegernsee's Museum
Popular masterpieces on display at Tegernsee Lake's Museum - Tegernsee's Sea Exhibition: Notable Artworks Showcased in the Museum
You bet your bottom dollar, Picasso, Renoir, and a whole crew of art legends - over 60 of them - are knocking socks off art enthusiasts worldwide at the Olaf Gulbransson Museum on the Bavarian Lake Tegernsee! This exhibition, running till July 20th, flaunts masterpieces by heavy hitters like Max Beckmann, Lyonel Feininger, and Paul Klee, all featuring that big blue sea lightning up their canvases.
Expect more than just beach bash scenes or harbor views. This show's gonna serve up some surprising takes on the ocean, and you won't wanna miss it! These trailblazing painters have left a pretty big mark on European and American art history, ya heard?
The museum's aimin' to ramp up its visitor count to nearly 20,000, and this specially-gathered collection from private vaults ain't nothin' to sneeze at. Michael Beck, chairman of the Olaf Gulbransson Society and curator of this bad boy, has put together a 250-page catalog for the event too.
Commencin' on Thursday, the museum's throwin' a free-admission day, packed with activities for the kiddos and their ol' man, a tour (11:00 AM) of the special exhibit, and an art workshop (2:00 PM) led by caricaturist Franz Eder.
The permanent collection at the museum features works by the Norwegian-born Tegernsee-based artist, Olaf Gulbransson. The Bavarian State Painting Collections manage this exhibit, while the Gulbransson Society orchestrates the annual special exhibitions.
Oh, and it seems there's another event called "Chambre d'Amis" happenin' at the museum from July 27–31, 2025. While the artist lineup isn't all set, we found a couple of artists with ties to Lake Tegernsee:
- Isabelle Stremme focuses on capturing the essence of the region’s forests, alps, and natural wonders through her artwork.
- Anika (@asimeth_art) paints light, water, and waves - though her work doesn't appear to be directly related to the museum's programming.
Keep an eye out for updates on the Chambre d'Amis exhibition, 'cause they ain't spillin' the beans about the artists just yet. And don't forget to hit up the museum or their official channels for confirmin' the whos and the wheres!
