On Sunday, August 24, 2025, Wuppertal, Germany, will play host to the "Tour de Verkehrswende" event, organised by "Changing Cities". This nationwide tour aims to promote climate-friendly, safe, and fair mobility, with around 30 cyclists taking part.

The day's activities will kick off at 2:45 PM at the Junior Uni (Am Brogel) in Unterbarmen. At 3:15 PM, the event will move to the Laurentiusplatz, where a colourful program awaits. This includes speeches, traffic transition bingo, a wheel of fortune, and a bike demonstration open to everyone, securely managed by the police.

The highlight of the event is a panel discussion, which will begin at 5 PM at the "Insel" (Wiesenstraße 6). Under the motto "Share streets fairly", the discussion will involve candidates from the CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, and Left. The topic of the panel discussion is how Wuppertal will shape future-proof mobility in the next legislative period, with a focus on reducing car traffic, enhancing pedestrian, cycling infrastructure, and public transportation, digital and multilingual municipal services, and integration and inclusion through language programs and social initiatives.

The Wuppertal Greens, represented by Oberbürgermeister candidate Dagmar Liste-Frinker, are the main political party highlighted for participation. Their agenda emphasises the importance of reducing car traffic to create more space for pedestrians, cyclists, and an efficient public transport system running every 10 minutes in all city districts. They aim to contribute to climate neutrality by 2035 through sustainable urban development measures like planting new trees, creating housing, and promoting the use of photovoltaics.

The "Tour de Verkehrswende" event in Wuppertal is part of a broader movement promoting bicycle-friendly cities, with stops in cities recognised for their sustainable transport policies, aligning with local political agendas focused on climate, urban development, and social inclusion. The organisers of the "Tour de Verkehrswende" have invited all citizens to work together with politics to advance future-proof mobility in Wuppertal.
