Tragic Death: Father in India Mourns Daughter and Son-in-Law, Both Killed in Car Crash in Abu Dhabi, Leaving Behind Their Young Children

Tragic tale revealed by a mourning Indian father: Daughter and son-in-law, both alive and cherishing their family life, meet an untimely end in a mishap in Abu Dhabi, leaving their young children behind.

In a heartbreaking incident, a road accident in Abu Dhabi has claimed the lives of Syed Waheed, 35, and Sana Begum, 27, and left their four-month-old grandson in a critical condition with head injuries, as well as their two daughters, aged seven and two, with fractures to their legs.

The family had recently returned to the UAE from Hyderabad on July 24, after attending Sana Begum's brother's engagement. They were on their way back from Abu Dhabi to their home in Al Ruwais when the accident occurred.

The couple, who had lived in the UAE for approximately seven years, had a strong desire to provide their children with a prosperous future. Syed Waheed worked for a technology company, while Sana Begum's dream was to care for and ensure the education of her children.

Abu Dhabi, globally recognized as one of the safest cities, has a high safety index of 88.4 and low crime and accident rates. The emirate employs advanced smart infrastructure, including AI-driven traffic monitoring, adaptive signals, and real-time incident management, to minimize accidents and smooth traffic flow. These systems contribute to fewer traffic congestions and safer roads.

For families with young children, specific safety measures include strict traffic regulations and enforcement of child safety laws in vehicles (e.g., mandatory child car seats), smart road sensors, and well-designed road infrastructure to reduce accident rates. Public awareness campaigns and community policing efforts further enhance road safety, creating a secure environment for all residents, including children.

Despite these efforts, road accidents involving children do occur. The family is now focusing on the well-being of the children, particularly the four-month-old grandson who is in critical condition with head injuries, and the two daughters who have been operated on for fractures to their legs.

Mr. Ismail, Sana Begum's father, described her as a perfect daughter and expressed his grief, stating that they had a big celebration for the engagement and did not expect to lose them so soon. Syed Ismail, Ms Begum's father, is distraught and is asking for prayers for his grandson.

The funeral for Syed Waheed and Sana Begum took place on Saturday. The bodies of the deceased were repatriated to India.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for all families with young children to remain vigilant, use child restraints in cars, and follow safety advice to mitigate risks further. It also underscores the ongoing commitment of Abu Dhabi authorities to improve road safety and reduce accident rates.
