Viersen Welcomes Fedele Maura Friede, Winner of Inaugural 'Peters-Messer Scholarship'

Viersen's cultural scene has welcomed Fedele Maura Friede, the recipient of the inaugural 'Evan Peters Scholarship of the City of Viersen'. The scholarship, established to support young artists working on paper, was founded through the 'Project Partnerschaft Evan Peters'.

Friede, born in 1997, hails from Holzminden and spent his formative years in Höxter and Karlsruhe. He currently resides in the revamped former caretaker's apartment in the Suchetlen Weberhaus. The young artist's talent has been recognised and nurtured by the 'Borderland Residencies' scholarship.

Friede's impressive portfolio includes winning the 8th Horst-Janssen-Grafikpreis in 2024 and showcasing his work in a solo exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle. His artistic journey includes studies at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig and the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien.

The 'Evan Peters Scholarship' was launched with the support of the Evan Peters family, represented by Florian Peters in signing the contract. The jury's decision to award the scholarship to Friede was unanimous, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Fedele Maura Friede began receiving the 'Evan Peters Scholarship' on August 1, 2024. Mayor Sabine Anemüller warmly welcomed Friede to Viersen, expressing the city's commitment to fostering artistic talent and growth.
