Women's International organization holds vibrant Mexican-themed event to kick off a new season
The International Women's Group (IWG) recently celebrated the start of their 2025-2026 season with a lively Mexican-themed event. The celebration, filled with colors, flavors, and music, was attended by members and ambassadors alike. The gathering began with a moment of silence honoring Ms. Rawda Elizabeth Mahmoud, a longtime member and founder of Kuwait English School. This touching tribute was followed by a video presentation showcasing the group's remarkable journey to four African countries. Sheikha Hanouf Al-Badr, Honorary President of the IWG, graced the occasion with her presence. Marika Kushlamazashvili, wife of the Ambassador of Georgia, assumed the presidency of the IWG, taking the group's mission forward with the trust placed in her by the board. The event, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Kuwait, celebrated the rich Mexican culture. Yousef Juma added a Mexican artistic flair to the live performance, while a Mexican tourism film showcased breathtaking nature and cultural heritage. A highlight of the event was the live cooking show hosted by Mexican chefs Fernanda and Daniela Perez Barrera. Authentic Mexican flavors, recognized by UNESCO on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, were served during the show. Visitors were also treated to a lively explanation of Lucha Libre, a famous Mexican sport, replete with drama, colors, and masks. Frida Kahlo's life was presented, focusing on her transformation of pain into timeless art. The celebration wouldn't have been complete without a vibrant mini-market recreating the feel of a traditional Mexican market. Offerings included fruit, baked goods, handicrafts, flowers, and street delicacies. A photo booth was available for guests to capture memories of the day. Gratitude was expressed to Paulina Dlamini (wife of the Ambassador of Eswatini) for her efforts and to Laura Duclos Villares (wife of the Ambassador of Mexico) for her support in organizing the celebration. The event concluded with the introduction of new female leadership, including Rima Khalidi (wife of the Ambassador of Palestine), Theano Platos (wife of the Ambassador of Greece), Midori Muki (wife of the Ambassador of Japan), and Saih Goffin (wife of the Ambassador of France) as new vice presidents. The International Women's Group's 2025-2026 season is set to be a "Journey Between Africa and Mexico." However, the specific countries the IWG has selected as focal points for their program remain undisclosed. Stay tuned for more updates from the IWG.
